Message from the Leader - December

I do hope you have been enjoying some of the many Christmas events and festivities that are now underway across the District. The official countdown to Christmas started with the Christmas lights switch on in Dorking and we had an even bigger crowd than usual this year. The sense of fun and excitement was infectious and I'd like to thank everyone at Dorking Halls for hosting the evening and the stars of this year's Pantomime for joining in the fun - what a way to get everyone in the festive mood!

I understand that tickets for this year's Pantomime are selling quickly so do book soon - the panto is always great fun for all the family and the productions really do seem to get better every year.

Possibly, like me, you are wondering how you are going to get everything done in time for the Christmas and New Year celebrations (and still have the energy to enjoy them!) so I thought I'd use this month's message to mention a few things the Council is doing to help:

Once again this year, we have free parking on Saturday afternoons in the lead up to Christmas - we have some wonderful retailers in the District so, if you are still be searching for that perfect gift or in need of a bit of inspiration about where to begin, do take advantage of this and shop locally.

Our Hello Mole Valley website is helping a number of local businesses to promote their festive offers - why not visit the site? Keep your eye on this page, businesses could be adding offers up until the end of December. You may be able to find the bargain you were looking for!

Our Christmas webpage wraps up everything you need to know about MVDC's services over this festive period. From the waste and recycling festive timetable to the opening hours of the Council's many facilities and the locations across the District where you can recycle your Christmas tree (not that you want to think about that now I'm sure!) - all the information is there for you in one place.

Finally, while we all hope that we avoid any flooding or excessive levels of snow here in Mole Valley, the weather has already turned that bit colder and we should be mindful that it pays to be prepared for the worst. So do take a look at the emergencies section of our website - it has the information you might need in the event of severe weather conditions.

Wishing you all a very happy and healthy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Councillor Vivienne Michael
Leader of the Council
