In return, one lucky winner will receive an iPod Nano RED. ![]() For more details on the 'Right Up Your Street' campaign and details on your nearest Roadshow, plus lots of other information and give-aways, including ringtones and a screensaver, visit http://www.rightupyourstreeet.info - promoting the fact that everyone in the county has a dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Team working with the public and partner organisations, to tackle the issues that matter most to people in Surrey. Surrey's Big Drink Debate is your opportunity to influence how we might tackle all forms of hazardous and harmful alcohol use.Keeping our neighbourhoods safe Safety in Mole Valley continues to be an important issue with local people. We know this is true because we have recently received the results of a community safety survey for the area in which over 1,600 people gave us their views on crime in the district, including: A safe place Overwhelmingly, people believe their local village or community is either very safe or safe. This reflects the reality of the situation in MoleValley, where we enjoy a low number of crimes and have also recently seen the highest reduction in crime levels in the county. Community concerns The incidents that seem to concern people most at the moment relate to 'anti-social behaviour'. This includes criminal damage such as vandalism, graffiti or abandoned cars, but can also be noise or neighbour nuisance or feelings of insecurity due to groups of people causing annoyance. Noisy neighbours were listed as concerns in 112 cases and nuisance from dogs in 111 cases, each accounting for about 7% of responses received. Although people see these things as problems, they told us that only about 20% of cases are reported. This compares with more than half of vehicle crimes being reported to the Police. Tackling crime When asked what people thought were the most effective ways of reducing crime, respondents told us that high profile policing is what local people want to feel safe and reassured in their communities. Many told us that the new Community Safety Vehicles, now regularly serving residents across MoleValley, are helping with this and that they are keen to see them used on a joint basis by the Police, Councils and the Fire & Rescue Service. Feedback from local people to visible Police Community Support Officers was also very positive, particularly in Dorking and Leatherhead town centres. Working together The Mole Valley Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership is a group of organisations working to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the area. It includes Mole Valley District Council, Surrey County Council, Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue service. We now have two Police and Community Partnership Groups in MoleValley, made up of local residents who want to get involved. Further information on these groups can be obtained from Clive Smitheram on tel: 01306 879305 or email: clive.smitheram@molevalley.gov.uk Further information Printer Friendly Version
