Mole Valley's Parking Charges Proposed to Increase after 9 year Freeze
Charges will remain competitive.
Mole Valley District Council is proposing increasing its parking charges from 60p to £1 per hour throughout the District. The 60p rate for one hour has been in place since 2009.* The new charges are set to come into effect from 1st August 2018.
Councillor David Mir, Executive Member for Environment and Parking said, "We understand that some people will be concerned by the increase but, having successfully held parking fees at a very low rate since 2009, the time has come to bring them in line with comparable areas.
"The decision has not been taken lightly. It is set in the context of our commitment to investing in our parking service. The increase will enable us to fund much needed improvements including upgrading all our pay and display machines so it is easier to pay using a card or via a smartphone and undertaking a complete programme of upgrades to all the car parks we own. We will also be investing in electric vehicle infrastructure by installing charging points in some of our car parks across the District.
"We will retain our now popular 30-minute free parking bays in Dorking and Bookham and will be providing some of these free parking bays in the Swan Centre in Leatherhead and in Ashtead.
"We are proud of the fact that Mole Valley has had the lowest car park charges in Surrey for some years now and, having carefully studied the parking charges in other areas, we are confident that we remain competitive."

*The one hour charge of 60p came into effect in 2009. In 2013 parking charges were reformatted when a penny-a-minute charge was introduced. That meant some charges increased whilst others decreased. The 60p for one hour charge remained unchanged.
