* Welcome to Mole Valley Online / Leisure / Tourism / Towns & Villages / Holmbury St Mary

Holmbury St Mary

Much of the village was developed in the 19th century and was called Felday until 1879. Previously the area had almost certainly been used as a refuge for smugglers and sheep stealers. The new name was taken from Holmbury Hill and the newly built village church - St Mary. Holmbury Hill stands at 857 feet. At its summit are the earthworks of an iron age fort, and the views are spectacular as they look over the North and South Downs.
